Working on a property mid-last year I was surprised to see so many different types of ladybirds were in the garden.

I didn’t know too much about ladybirds, other than there are different species and they’re great to have in the garden. So thought the first place to start was to take a photo every time I see one, and work out what it is.

Using the iNaturalist app on my phone I found there have been 19 species seen in the local area, with the Large Spotted Ladybird the most commonly seen. Because the app is based on people submitting their photos there may be species that haven’t been uploaded yet but are still found in the area. So I’m going to see if I can get some nice photos of all 19 listed in the app, and see if I can find any that might not be listed in the area yet.

So far I’ve taken some good photos of the Large Spotted Ladybird (pictured), and have seen but need to take better photos of the Fungus-eating Ladybird, the Tasmanian Ladybird and the Steelblue Ladybird.
